From Castlebar take the N60 to
Claremorris. In Balla we see the early
monastic site and round tower. Continue on
to Claremorris and take the N17 to
Knock.
Knock Village is one of the most famous
Marian Shrines in the world and
receives over one and a half million
visitors annually.
Knock Folk Museum is also worth a visit
and is situated in the shrine grounds,
containing a wide range of artifacts of
rural life from 19th and 20th century.
From Knock take the R323 to Kiltimagh.
Kiltimagh Museum houses many
artifacts from our past, such as the Land
League Banner, buried for safety in a bog
for forty years, the instruments of the
19th century town band, items from
Kiltimagh Lace School, Railway artifacts
and many other items reflecting different
aspects of our past.
Return to Castlebar via Bohola and
Turlough with it's Round Tower and
associations with St. Patrick.
Also in Turlough, the Museum of Country
Life allows you to immerse yourself in
the traditions and lifestyle of our
ancestors.
