This is the longest of our suggested tours but is well worth the drive to visit Ceide Feilds on the Northern Coast of Co. Mayo.

From Castlebar take the N5 into Bellavary and turn left onto the N58 towards Kilmore, passing Strade Franciscan Friary.

The Michael Davitt Museum in Straide, Foxford exhibits many interesting artifacts connected with the much loved founder of the of the Land League.

A visit to Foxford Woolen Mills & Visitors Centre is a must. Take the industrial tour and experience the sights, sounds and smells of this 19th century woolen mill. Afterwards relax in the comfortable restaurant and browse through the impressive mill shop.

Continue north on the N26 following the River Moy which boasts some of the best salmon and brown trout in Europe. Ballina is a lively town with many good cafes and restaurants to have lunch in.

From Ballina, take the N59 west towards Crossmolina and then head north on the R315 through Ballycastle, onto Ceide Fields.

Ceide Fields are the oldest known field systems in the world, over five and a half millennia old. It is a unique Neolithic landscape of world importance, which has changed our perception of our Stone Age ancestors. The remains of stone field walls, houses and megalithic tombs are preserved beneath a blanket of peat over several square miles.

Either return to Castlebar the same way or via Pontoon passing Loughs Conn & Cullin.
